Subject: The Next Delaware River Flood
It’s been a long time since the Flood of June, ’06. Many
flood victims have lapsed into indifference or moved on with their
lives, perhaps thinking it won’t happen again.
But the way things are going, IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
The huge NYCDEP reservoirs in Delaware County, NY are FULL and OVERFLOWING!
WHAT CAN BE DONE? We at DrowningontheDelaware.com have been getting
emails from people who are still angry about the recent floods. Some
are already looking to the NEXT flood.
Here are some ideas that have been shared with us via email:
IF THERE IS ANOTHER FLOOD
And IF the reservoirs are full when it happens:
1. Ask our County Prosecutors to explore filing criminal charges against
DRBC/NYCDEP bureaucrats who help perpetrate the floods. THERE MAY
BE LOSS OF LIFE – AGAIN! Those responsible must be identified
and held accountable.
2. Organize Activist groups that will put thousands of protesters
on the streets of every river community
3. Prepare, NOW, for the News Media
Appoint Press “spotters” who will find the location of
TV camera crews and print reporters and alert spokespeople for Flood
Victims, enabling interviews
Prepare Press Releases for reporters that:
- EXPLAIN – via a fully-documented FACT sheet why DRBC/DEP is
responsible for the flooding
- ASK WHY the governors do nothing to reduce the impact of these incredibly
costly floods
- IDENTIFY OUR FRIENDS -- congressional, local and state representatives
who have denounced DRBC/DEP policies and strongly advocated protecting
us, their constituents
- CAMPAIGN AGAINST congressional, local and state representatives
who have ignored their constituents and, by default, supported DRBC/DEP
policies
- DETAIL THE WHISTLEBLOWER SEARCH with contact number, email address
(FloodStory@yahoo.com) Current Reservoir levels by Joan Homovichand
Reward!! We need someone inside DRBC/NYCDEP to step forward, do the
right thing and tell the world what’s really going on
PLUS
- Prepare signs,(e.g.): “Another Flood Brought to Us by Gov.
Ed Rendell (Corzine, Spitzer)
- Circulate petitons
- Etc.
ADDITIONAL ACTIONS:
4. Actively pursue a Whistleblower Search: Publicize email contact
address
5. Contact/Update Investigative Reporters, especially The New York
Times
Compile:
- Comprehensive list of all communications sent to elected officials
and bureaucrats warning against the practices that led to the flood
and their responses (or lack thereof)
- A complete list elected officials and public servants who took an
active role in trying to protect Flood Victims.
- A complete list elected officials and public servants who DID NOT
take an active role in trying to protect Flood Victims.
- Print copies and circulate NY State Comptrollers Report of NYCDEP
failings
- Etc.
6. SUPPORT THOSE WHO SUPPORT US:
- Organize all Flood Victims and Concerned Citizens to support the
list of elected officials who clearly demonstrated their support for
us
7. REPLACE THOSE WHO DON’T SUPPORT US:
- Work to defeat and replace the elected officials who did not demonstrate
their support for us
8. ORGANIZE BUS TRIPS to NYCDEP Headquarters in Flushing, Queens and
DRBC Headquarters in West Trenton to stage mass demonstrations.
• Identify local organizers in 15 – 20 municipalities
from just below the reservoirs to south of Trenton to handle logistics
• Prepare signs. Some examples:
- Another Man-made Flood! Why Aren’t You Protecting Us Gov.
[Rendell, Corzine, Spitzer] ?!?!?
- Why is NYCDEP (DRBC) Trying to Drown Us?!?!!
- We Need A Whistleblower! (with phone number, email address -- FloodStory@yahoo.com)
• Invite Congressional Reps – at least 14 Members of Congress
are with us. Several will speak
• Prepare press packages for News Media explaining
- why DRBC/DEP is responsible for the severity of floods
- asking why our Governors do nothing to reduce the impact of these
incredibly costly floods
- Etc.
9. Lobby for a Supreme Court review. This case deserves their attention.
