Honorable New Jersey and Pennsylvania representatives:
I know that you are well aware that we have had no floods from 1955
until the first flood in September 2004. Thereafter, we have had
flooding in April 05 and June 06. Although we received notice to
"prepare to evacuate" in March 07 luck was with us that
time and we did not flood, at least in Stockton, NJ.
It is so unfair that we are forced to live in constant fear of being
flooded due to NYC DEP's mismanagement of their Delaware River Reservoirs
and the DRBC's failure to act on our behalf. Frankly, I cannot fathom
how a commission that was created to protect and speak for the TriState
River communities as a member of the Decree Parties could fail so
miserably in their jobs. If I didn't know better, I would think
that NYC DEP is paying their salaries... However, I do know better.
I know that "we" the tax payers are paying their salaries,
yet they fail to act or speak in our best interests.
If you have yet to lend your voice to this issue, I urge you to
speak up now, before we have another flood.
For our many representatives who have stepped up and spoken on our
behalf and who have written to the DRBC and the Governors, thank
you, we reallyappreciate it. With electronic communications and
scanners at our finger tips, word spreads very fast and your letters
of support are quickly circulated. Rest assured that none of us
will forget those of you who have stood up for us.
I am once again requesting that all of you ask our Governors and
the DRBC to insist that NYC DEP reassess its entire water system,
not just the 3 Delaware River Reservoirs. Once the entire system
is reassessed and optimized, it will be apparent to everyone that
there is more than enough water to go around. No one will do without
water and there will be no reason why the Riverside communities
are not afforded a measure of safety with the 3 Delaware River Reservoirs
being maintained at 80% capacity. Keeping the 3 Delaware River Reservoirs
at 80% capacity will require robust bottom releases, which will
benefit the fisheries, sportsmen, recreationalist, the aquatic eco-system,
and the "river" businesses. It is the way to go, whereby
we will all benefit and I ask that you give this request serious
consideration.
Please send an immediate letter to your respective Governor and
the DRBC and let them know that you are not giving in to the pressure
of NYC DEP; and that you will be standing with and speaking on behalf
of your constituents.
Please read "Joan's" very simply stated email below. Joan
lives right below the Pepacton Reservoir and sees first hand what
is going on. She has given us permission to distribute her email.
Respectfully,
Sharron Dallas
