LETTER
FROM DRC PRESIDENT, DINAH RUSH.
Comment
to the DRBC on the Sept. 26th Hearing
Members of the DRBC and State Representatives,
The Delaware Riverside Conservancy is a non-profit organization comprised
of people and business that live on or near the Delaware River. It
also includes members who are concerned that lack of proper management
and regulations continue to pose a threat to life, property and the
welfare of this pristine waterway. We currently have over 400 members
who have collected thousands of signatures on our petitions that call
for lowering the water level of the upstream reservoirs.
According to the Delaware Riverside conservancy's hydrologist, several
reservoirs located in the Upper Delaware River Basin were at, or over
capacity directly prior to the 3 most recent major flooding events.
The excess water from these reservoirs added to an already swollen
river and increased the flooding by approximately SIX FEET. This excess
water helped to create 3 Federal Disasters.
As president of the Delaware Riverside Conservancy, I am requesting your
help to effectively stop this excessive, unnecessary flooding by mandating
the reservoirs exceed NO more than 80% capacity year round, This would
create a permanent SAFETY VOID to reduce flooding, maintain the ecology
of the river and provide drinking water. Please see our web site
for more detailed support of our position at www.drconline.org.
Thank you for your valuable time,
Dinah Rush,
President
Delaware Riverside Conservancy
